Bailiffs – What are bailiffs
and what do they do?
Bailiffs are called in when a creditor needs help recovering a debt and is usually the last resort taken when trying to recover debt.
Bailiffs do have special powers and able to recover possessions and enter your home to recover money and debts that are owed to the creditor. They may also be able to force entry into your home to obtain valuables and possessions under certain circumstances.
A bailiff would usually be called in when:
- You are behind with your payments or in arrears.
- The judge has ordered the use of bailiffs to recover debts owed.
What are bailiffs are not allowed to do?
Bailiffs are not allowed to take possessions that can be proven to belong to anyone else. They are also not allowed to take essential living items such as beds, fridges or anything that you may rely on to do your job (this may not necessary include your car).
