What is an attachment of earnings?

An attachment of earnings can be used to force your debtor to pay what they owe directly from their pay or salary. It is then the responsibly of the employer to pass the money due to the courts on from their employees wage.

The creditor has to apply to the court for an attachment of earnings order if they wish to obtain payment directly from your employer through your salary.

The court can order that the debts be paid directly from your earnings if:

  • You fall behind with your payments on your CCJ (County Court Judgement).
  • You are in employment.
  • You owe more than £50.
